The SECO 17002224 is a solid carbide square end mill engineered for cutting aluminum and non-ferrous materials in demanding machining environments. This single-end mill features a 3/8 inch cutting diameter, a 3/4 inch length of cut, and a 45-degree helix angle that promotes efficient chip evacuation in soft, gummy materials. The micrograin carbide substrate provides the edge retention and rigidity needed for high-speed passes in aluminum alloys, brass, and similar workpiece materials. It runs right-hand cut with right-hand spiral flutes, is center-cutting capable, and carries a bright uncoated finish suited to non-ferrous applications where coating adhesion is not required.
This end mill is designed for use in CNC machining centers and manual milling machines where aluminum, copper alloys, plastics, and other non-ferrous materials are the primary workpiece. The long-reach geometry, with a 2 inch reach length and 4 inch overall length on a 3/8 inch straight shank, makes it well suited for slotting, profiling, and pocket milling in applications that require clearance past workpiece features or fixtures. It is a common choice for job shops, production machining, and aerospace fabrication work.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement or direct procurement option for 3/8 inch straight-shank toolholders including ER collet chucks, shrink-fit holders, and side-lock holders. Primary workpiece material compatibility is aluminum and non-ferrous (material code N). No coolant-through capability; external flood or mist coolant is recommended.
Installation is performed by qualified machinists or CNC setup technicians. Ensure the toolholder bore is clean and free of chips before seating the shank, and confirm runout does not exceed the specified TIR maximum of 0.0005 inches after clamping. Power down and lock out the spindle before any tool change. Do not exceed the toolholder manufacturer's recommended clamping torque for the shank diameter.
