The SECO 17002222 is a solid carbide square end mill designed for precision milling of aluminum and non-ferrous materials. Part of the AN345 series, it features a 1/4 inch cutting diameter, a 1/2 inch length of cut, and a 3 inch overall length with a 1 inch reach length, classifying it as a long-reach tool. The 45-degree helix angle and three-flute spiral geometry promote efficient chip evacuation and smooth surface finishes when cutting softer metals and alloys. The bright, uncoated finish is well-suited for aluminum applications where coatings can cause built-up edge. Micrograin carbide construction provides the rigidity and edge retention required in demanding CNC machining environments.
This end mill is intended for use in CNC machining centers and manual mills where aluminum, copper, brass, and other non-ferrous workpieces are common. The long-reach configuration makes it suitable for slotting, profiling, and pocketing operations that require extended tool projection beyond the spindle or collet. It is a single-end tool with a straight 1/4 inch shank, compatible with standard ER and straight-bore collet systems. The centercutting capability allows direct plunge entry into the workpiece without pre-drilling.
Designed as a direct-fit replacement or new-application tool within the SECO AN345 series. Suited for use with standard 1/4 inch ER collets and straight-bore tool holders in CNC machining centers and conventional mills processing aluminum and non-ferrous workpieces.
Installation should be performed by a qualified machinist or CNC setup technician. Secure the straight shank in a clean, properly sized collet or tool holder, ensuring runout does not exceed the specified TIR maximum before beginning a cut. Power down the spindle and verify zero motion before loading or removing the tool. Do not use this end mill on ferrous materials, as it is optimized for non-ferrous applications and may experience accelerated wear on steel or cast iron.
