The SECO 17002087 is a solid carbide ball end mill designed for high-performance milling in steel, cast iron, aluminum, and other non-ferrous materials. With a 1/2 inch mill diameter, 4 flutes, and an AlTiN PVD coating, this tool delivers effective chip evacuation and heat resistance in demanding cutting environments. The extended reach design with a 4.125 inch reach length and 3.5 inch neck length allows access to deep cavities and features that standard-length end mills cannot reach. It is a single-end, right-hand cut tool with a variable helix and a Weldon flat shank, suited for both roughing and finishing operations on CNC machining centers.
This end mill fits standard CNC milling applications in job shops, tool rooms, and production environments where deep-reach profiling, slotting, or contouring of steel and non-ferrous parts is required. The 40-degree helix angle with a low helix style, combined with center-cutting capability, makes it suitable for plunge entry and complex 3D profiling. The AlTiN coating provides oxidation resistance at elevated temperatures, extending tool life in dry or semi-dry cutting conditions on ferrous and aluminum workpieces. Designed for use in standard 1/2 inch collet chucks or Weldon-style side-lock holders on CNC vertical and horizontal machining centers. Primary workpiece materials are steel, cast iron, aluminum, and non-ferrous alloys.
Installation and tool changes should be performed by a qualified machinist or CNC operator with the spindle fully stopped and machine power locked out. Seat the Weldon flat shank fully into the holder and torque the set screw to the holder manufacturer's specification before running. Verify runout with a dial indicator before first use; maximum TIR for this tool is 0.0005 inches. Follow the cutting tool manufacturer's recommended speeds and feeds for the workpiece material and do not exceed the tool's rated cutting parameters.
