The SECO 17002086 is a solid carbide ball end mill from the STBN440 series, designed for high-performance material removal in steel, cast iron, and aluminum and non-ferrous alloys. It features a 0.5-inch mill diameter with a 4-flute, right-hand spiral configuration and a 40-degree variable helix angle that promotes chip evacuation and reduces chatter during aggressive cuts. The AlTiN PVD coating improves heat resistance and extends tool life in dry or semi-dry machining conditions. The extended-reach geometry and 2.5-inch neck length make this mill suitable for deep-cavity and contour work where standard-length tools cannot reach. Centercutting capability allows plunge entry without a pre-drilled pilot hole.
This ball end mill is built for roughing and finishing operations on steel, cast iron, and aluminum and non-ferrous workpieces. The extended reach and Weldon flat shank make it a practical choice for mold and die work, aerospace component machining, and general CNC profiling where deep slot or pocket access is required. The single-end configuration with a 0.625-inch length of cut and 3.125-inch reach length supports both light finishing passes and moderate material removal rates on a variety of CNC machining centers.
Designed for use in CNC machining centers and milling machines with standard 0.5-inch tool holders compatible with a Weldon flat shank. Suitable for primary workpiece materials including steel, cast iron, and aluminum and non-ferrous alloys.
Installation should be performed by a qualified machinist or CNC tooling technician. Secure the Weldon flat shank firmly in a compatible end mill holder before use, ensuring the set screw engages the flat to prevent pullout under load. Confirm spindle speed and feed rate are set per the shop's established parameters for the workpiece material before starting the cut. Do not exceed the tool's rated depth of cut for the material being machined.
