The SECO 17002085 is a solid carbide ball end mill from the STBN440 series, designed for roughing and finishing operations in demanding machining environments. With a 0.5 inch cutting diameter, a 4-flute configuration, and a variable helix geometry at 40 degrees, this tool delivers efficient chip evacuation and reduced chatter during cuts. The AlTiN PVD coating provides thermal resistance and wear protection, making this end mill well-suited for aggressive material removal at elevated speeds. The extended reach design and Weldon flat shank accommodate deep-pocket and long-reach applications where standard-length tools cannot reach the workpiece surface.
This end mill is intended for use in CNC machining centers and milling applications involving steel, cast iron, aluminum, and other non-ferrous materials. The single-end, right-hand cutting and right-hand flute direction are standard configurations for conventional and climb milling on vertical and horizontal machining centers. The extended neck length of 1.5 inches and a reach length of 2.125 inches make this tool appropriate for deep-cavity milling, die and mold work, and other applications where clearance between the holder and workpiece is critical. It is installed by machinists and CNC operators in job shop and production environments.
Designed for use in standard 0.5 inch collet chucks, end mill holders, and Weldon-style holders on CNC vertical and horizontal machining centers. Primary workpiece material compatibility includes steel (P), cast iron (K), aluminum, and non-ferrous materials (N) per ISO material classification.
Installation should be performed by a qualified machinist or CNC operator. Ensure the machine spindle is fully stopped and the control is in a safe state before loading or removing any tooling. Secure the Weldon flat against the setscrew in the holder and verify runout does not exceed the maximum TIR of 0.0005 inches before initiating a cut. Confirm tool projection and reach against the programmed toolpath to avoid holder-to-workpiece interference, particularly in deep-pocket operations.
