The SECO 17002079 is a solid carbide ball end mill designed for precision milling in ferrous and non-ferrous metalworking applications. Part of the STBN440 series, it features a 1/4 inch cutting diameter, a 3/8 inch length of cut, and a 4-inch overall length with extended reach geometry. The 1/4 inch nose radius produces a true ball profile suited for contour milling, 3D profiling, and finishing passes. Four flutes with a variable helix and right-hand cutting direction help evacuate chips efficiently while maintaining surface finish quality. An AlTiN PVD coating increases wear resistance and thermal stability during high-speed cuts.
This end mill is suited for steel, cast iron, aluminum, and other non-ferrous materials, covering ISO material classifications P, K, and N. The extended reach design, with a 2-1/8 inch reach length and a 1-3/4 inch neck length, makes it appropriate for deep-pocket milling, cavity work, and die-and-mold operations where a standard-length tool cannot access the feature. It is capable of both roughing and finishing cuts in a single tool, reducing changeover time in production setups. The straight cylindrical shank fits standard ER and end mill holders commonly used in CNC machining centers and manual mills.
Designed for use in CNC machining centers and manual mills with standard straight-bore end mill or ER collet toolholders sized for a 1/4 inch shank. Primary workpiece materials include steel, cast iron, aluminum, and non-ferrous alloys.
Installation is performed by qualified machinists or CNC setup technicians. Ensure the machine spindle is fully stopped and locked out before inserting or removing the tool. Secure the straight cylindrical shank in a properly sized collet or end mill holder, torquing the retention nut to the toolholder manufacturer's specification. Verify runout against the published TIR maximum of 0.0005 inches before beginning the cut to avoid premature wear or tool failure.
