The SECO 17002069 is a solid carbide corner radius end mill designed for precision milling in demanding metalworking applications. It features a 1/2 inch mill diameter with a 0.0300 inch corner radius, a 4-flute geometry, and a TiAlN coating for extended tool life under high-heat cutting conditions. The cutter runs in a right-hand cutting direction with a variable helix and variable index configuration, which helps reduce chatter and improve surface finish. With a 5/8 inch length of cut and a 3-1/8 inch extended reach, this end mill suits deep-pocket and high-reach operations. It is single-end and centercutting, allowing plunge entry directly into the workpiece. Licensed machinists and CNC operators in job shops and production environments are the primary users.
This end mill is built for milling stainless steel as its primary workpiece material, where the TiAlN coating provides heat resistance and wear protection at elevated cutting temperatures. The extended reach and 5 inch overall length make it suitable for deep-cavity profiling, contouring, and finish milling passes on stainless components. The Weldon flat shank with a 1/2 inch shank diameter provides positive drive and reduces pullout risk in high-torque cuts. The 0.4800 inch neck diameter allows clearance in tight areas without sacrificing rigidity. Series STRN440 identifies this tool within the SECO extended-reach carbide end mill family.
Designed as an OEM-style solid carbide corner radius end mill in Series STRN440, suitable for use in standard 1/2 inch end mill holders or Weldon-style side-lock holders. Primary workpiece material is stainless steel.
Installation is performed by CNC machinists or manual mill operators using a compatible 1/2 inch Weldon flat side-lock holder; verify holder runout before engaging the cut. Ensure the spindle is fully stopped and the machine is in a safe state before tool changes. Do not exceed the tool manufacturer's recommended speeds and feeds for stainless steel to avoid premature coating wear or edge chipping. Inspect the corner radius for wear regularly, as corner radius end mills are sensitive to chipping at the corner during interrupted cuts.
