The SECO 17000435 is a solid carbide helical flute thread mill designed for cutting 3/8-16 UN threads in both internal and external applications. It runs a 3-flute, right-hand cutting geometry with a 0.2850-inch cutting diameter and a 5/16-inch (0.3125-inch) shank diameter. The 3/4-inch length of cut accommodates standard thread engagement depths at 16 teeth per inch. An AlCrN coating provides heat and wear resistance during high-speed milling operations. This tool is used by machinists and tooling specialists in CNC machining centers where thread milling is preferred over tapping for precision, tool life, or application requirements.
This thread mill suits CNC machining applications requiring 3/8-16 UN internal or external threads in materials where solid carbide tooling and AlCrN coating offer an advantage over high-speed steel alternatives. Coolant-through capability supports chip evacuation and thermal management during the cut, making it appropriate for ferrous and non-ferrous workpieces in production or job-shop environments. The right-hand flute direction is standard for conventional thread milling cycles on CNC machining centers.
Designed for use in CNC machining centers capable of helical interpolation; compatible with standard 5/16-inch collet or end mill holders. Suitable for cutting 3/8-16 UN threads per the UN thread standard.
Installation and tool changes should be performed by qualified machinists with the machine spindle fully stopped and the control in a safe state. Secure the 5/16-inch shank in a compatible collet or milling chuck to the holder manufacturer's specified torque. Verify coolant-through passages are clear before running the tool at programmed feed and speed. Thread milling requires a helical interpolation cycle in the CNC program; confirm cycle parameters match the 3/8-16 UN thread specification before cutting.
