The SECO 17000013 is a solid carbide square end mill engineered for precision milling of aluminum and non-ferrous materials. It features a 5/16-inch cutting diameter, a 7/16-inch length of cut, and a 4-inch overall length, placing it in the long-length category for extended reach applications. The 45-degree helix angle promotes efficient chip evacuation in gummy, soft metals. Three spiral flutes and a right-hand cut with right-hand flute direction deliver smooth, consistent material removal. The micrograin carbide substrate provides the hardness and edge retention required for high-speed non-ferrous machining operations. This is a single-end, centercutting design, allowing plunge entry as well as peripheral and slot milling. It ships uncoated (bright finish).
This end mill is suited for production and maintenance machining environments where aluminum alloys, copper, brass, and similar non-ferrous workpiece materials are processed. The long-reach geometry, with a 2-1/8-inch reach length, makes it appropriate for deep-slot milling, profile work, and cavity machining where standard-length tools lack sufficient clearance. It is used in CNC machining centers, knee mills, and manual mills by machinists and toolroom technicians working on light-metal components.
Designed for use in standard straight-shank collet systems and end mill holders accepting a 5/16-inch shank. Primary workpiece material designation is Aluminum and Non-Ferrous (Material Code N). Part of the SECO AN345 long-length series.
Installation should be performed by a qualified machinist following shop safety procedures. Ensure the spindle is fully stopped and locked out before changing tooling. Seat the shank fully in the collet or holder to the minimum engagement depth recommended for the holder type, and torque the retention nut per the holder manufacturer specification. Verify runout does not exceed the maximum TIR of 0.0005 inch after installation before initiating a cut.
