The SECO 17000008 is a solid carbide corner radius end mill designed for precision milling in graphite and similarly abrasive materials. It measures 3/8 inches in diameter with a 0.0200-inch corner radius and features four right-hand spiral flutes with a 30-degree medium helix angle. The cutting edge is finished with a CVD diamond coating, which provides the hardness and wear resistance required when machining highly abrasive workpiece materials. At 2.5 inches overall length with a 7/8-inch length of cut, this is a short-series, single-end, centercutting tool suited to both roughing and finishing operations in CNC machining centers and milling machines.
This end mill is primarily intended for graphite machining, where conventional uncoated or PVD-coated carbide tools wear rapidly. The CVD diamond coating extends tool life significantly in this application. It accepts a straight-cylindrical 3/8-inch shank and is designed for use with standard toolholders in vertical and horizontal milling setups. The normal pitch and fixed helix geometry make it straightforward to program with standard feeds and speeds for graphite. Typical users include CNC machinists, tool-and-die shops, and EDM electrode manufacturers working with graphite workpieces.
Part of the SECO DIACR430 series. Designed for use with standard toolholders accepting a 3/8-inch straight-cylindrical shank. Primary workpiece material is graphite (material code O).
Installation and tool changes must be performed with the spindle fully stopped and the machine in a safe, locked-out state. Seat the shank fully and evenly in the toolholder before torquing to the holder manufacturer's specification. Graphite machining produces fine, conductive dust — ensure adequate dust collection and filtration are in place before cutting. Inspect the CVD diamond coating visually before each use; do not run a chipped or delaminated tool.
