The SECO 10008609 is a solid carbide square end mill designed for high-performance metal cutting in demanding machining environments. Built on the STS540 series platform, it features a 3/8 inch mill diameter, 7/8 inch length of cut, and a 2.5 inch overall length with a matching 3/8 inch shank diameter. The 5-flute geometry combined with a 40-degree variable helix and variable index delivers improved chip evacuation and reduced chatter during aggressive cuts. HTA coating provides thermal resistance and wear protection when cutting ferrous and high-temperature alloys. This tool is intended for use by machinists and CNC operators working with precision metalcutting applications.
The 10008609 is suited for milling operations on steel, stainless steel, high-temperature alloys, and hardened materials. Its short length type and single-end configuration make it a practical choice for slotting, profiling, and contouring in vertical and horizontal machining centers. The right-hand cutting and right-hand flute direction are standard for conventional CNC setups. Center-cutting capability allows plunge entry where required. This end mill is not configured for coolant-through delivery or extended-reach applications.
The STS540 series is designed for cutting steel (P), stainless steel (M), high-temperature alloys (S), and hardened materials (H) as identified by ISO material group codes. Designed as an OEM-style replacement or direct-use end mill for applications requiring a 3/8 inch diameter, 5-flute carbide tool with HTA coating.
Installation should be performed by a qualified machinist or CNC operator following standard toolholder torque and runout procedures. Ensure the machine spindle and toolholder are clean and free of debris before seating the shank. Verify shank engagement depth meets toolholder manufacturer minimums before operation. Disconnect machine power and follow lockout/tagout procedures before changing tooling.
