The SECO 03310407 is a solid carbide turning insert in the VBMT-M3 series, designed for external turning operations on CNC lathes and turning centers. It features a CVD multilayer coating of TiCN and Al2O3, which provides wear resistance and thermal protection during continuous and interrupted cuts. The insert carries a TP25 manufacturer grade and is rated for steel as its primary workpiece material, with secondary suitability for stainless steel and cast iron. The 35-degree diamond shape (V-style) delivers a sharp approach angle, and the M3 chip breaker geometry promotes controlled chip evacuation across a range of feed and depth-of-cut conditions. The insert is mounted via screw-clamp holding and is classified neutral hand.
This insert is suited for medium-duty turning applications including back turning, facing, profiling, and general turning. It fits toolholders designed for VBMT-style inserts with a 3/8-inch inscribed circle and is appropriate for both production and repair machining environments. Primary workpiece material is steel (ISO material group P20, P30, P35), with secondary capability on stainless steel and cast iron. The M3 chip breaker makes it a practical choice for varied depth-of-cut scenarios where chip control is a priority. Minimum order quantity is 5 pieces; each package contains 1 insert.
Designed for use in screw-clamp toolholders accepting VBMT-style inserts with a 3/8-inch inscribed circle. Compatible with machining of steel (P20, P30, P35 material grades), stainless steel, and cast iron. Industry standard number VBMT331-M3; ISO code VBMT160404-M3.
Installation is performed by a machinist or CNC tooling technician. Power down and lock out the machine spindle before seating or replacing inserts. Use the correct torque wrench and manufacturer-specified clamp screw to secure the insert without over-tightening. Inspect the insert pocket and seating surface for chips or debris before installing a new insert to ensure proper seating and runout.
