The SECO 03280058 is a round-profile indexable milling insert in the RPKT-16 series, designed for face and shoulder milling operations on CNC machining centers. It carries the manufacturer grade MP2501 with a CVD-applied Duratomic coating of TiCN and Al2O3, delivering wear resistance and thermal stability across a broad range of workpiece materials. The insert features 8 cutting edges, a positive rake angle of 15 degrees, a T-Land cutting edge style, a relief angle of 11 degrees, and a corner radius of 0.3150 inches (8.00 mm). Screw-on holding secures the insert in compatible cutter bodies. The fine-grain solid carbide substrate supports consistent edge integrity at elevated cutting speeds.
This insert is suited for milling steel, stainless steel, cast iron, superalloys, and titanium in both roughing and semi-finishing applications. The M18 chip breaker geometry is optimized for these materials, managing chip evacuation and reducing cutting forces. Compatible cutter series include R217.29-08 and R220.29-08. The neutral hand designation makes it adaptable across a range of milling setups. It is used in production and job-shop environments where tool consistency and insert indexability are priorities. The single-sided design, combined with 8 usable cutting edges per insert, supports efficient tooling cost management in medium-to-high-volume machining runs.
Compatible with SECO cutter series R217.29-08 and R220.29-08. Insert conforms to ANSI and ISO code RPKT1605M0T-8-M18 and is interchangeable in any cutter body accepting the RPKT-16 insert size and screw-on mounting.
Installation is performed by machining technicians or toolroom personnel. Power down and lock out the machine spindle before indexing or replacing inserts. Use the appropriate Torx or hex key to seat the clamping screw to the cutter body specification — do not overtighten, as this can crack the carbide. Inspect the insert pocket and screw threads for wear or debris before seating a new insert.
