The SECO 03280046 is a round solid carbide milling insert in the RPHT-16 series, identified by the ANSI/ISO code RPHT1605M0T-8-M12. It carries a dual PVD coating of TiAlN and TiN over a fine-grain carbide substrate in manufacturer grade F40M. The insert is round in shape with an inscribed circle of 0.6299 inches (16.00 mm), a thickness of 0.2189 inches (7/32 inch), and delivers 8 usable cutting edges per insert. The positive rake geometry at 15 degrees combined with a T-Land cutting edge style and an 11-degree relief angle supports efficient chip evacuation across a range of workpiece materials. It is a single-sided, neutral-hand insert held by screw.
This insert is suited for milling operations on steel, stainless steel, cast iron, non-ferrous metals, superalloys, and titanium. It is intended for use in face milling and shoulder milling applications on compatible cutter bodies. The M12 chip breaker geometry is designed to handle both finishing and semi-finishing passes. Typical installers are CNC machinists and toolroom technicians working in production or job-shop environments. Confirmed cutter series compatibility includes R217.29-08 and R220.29-08.
Confirmed compatible cutter series: R217.29-08 and R220.29-08. Verify insert seat geometry and screw size against the specific cutter body before installation.
Installation is performed by a CNC machinist or toolroom technician. Ensure the cutter body is removed from the spindle and fully de-energized before seating or replacing inserts. Use the correct torx or hex key specified by the cutter body manufacturer to achieve proper clamp screw torque — do not over-tighten, as insert fracture or seat damage can result. Inspect the pocket seat for chips or burrs before installing a new insert.
