The SECO 03280031 is a solid carbide turning insert in the WNMG-M3 series, designed for precision metal removal on CNC lathes and turning centers. It carries a CVD-applied Duratomic coating of TiCN, Al2O3, and Cr, which extends tool life during demanding cuts. The insert features a trigon (W) shape with an 80-degree included angle, a negative rake geometry, and a chamfered and honed cutting edge. With 6 usable cutting edges and an M3 chip breaker, this insert delivers consistent chip control across a range of depths. This insert is sized for applications in stainless steel (primary) and steel (secondary) workpiece materials, making it a practical choice for shops running mixed-material production schedules. Designed for use in WNMG-style toolholders that accept a 1/2-inch inscribed circle trigon insert with clamp, pin, or lever lock holding. Verify toolholder pocket geometry and insert seat specifications before installation.
Installation is performed by a machinist or CNC toolroom technician. Power down and lock out the machine before changing inserts. Use the appropriate torque wrench and clamp screw specified by the toolholder manufacturer — do not overtighten, as this can crack the carbide. Inspect the insert seat and shim for damage or debris before seating the new insert.
