The SECO 03280021 is a solid carbide turning insert in the TCMT series, designed for precision metal cutting in CNC turning applications. This insert carries grade TM3501 with a Duratomic CVD coating combining TiCN, Al2O3, and Cr layers for wear resistance and thermal stability at the cutting edge. The insert features a 60-degree triangular shape with three usable cutting edges, a 3/8 inch inscribed circle, and a 1/64 inch corner radius. The MF2 chip breaker geometry and chamfered-and-honed cutting edge style make this insert well suited for finishing and light roughing operations on stainless steel and steel. Installed by machinists and CNC operators, it mounts via screw clamping in compatible TCMT-style toolholders.
This insert is primarily rated for stainless steel (ISO material code M) and secondarily for steel (ISO material code P), covering material grades M30 and M40. Multi-use application support includes turning, facing, boring, and back turning. The neutral hand orientation allows use in both right- and left-hand setups where the toolholder geometry permits. It conforms to ANSI and ISO standards and carries ISO designation TCMT16T304-MF2 for cross-reference against metric-specified tooling systems. Typical use is in production turning cells, job shops, and maintenance machining environments where consistent surface finish on stainless or alloy steel is required.

Installation is performed by machinists or CNC setup technicians. Power down and lock out the machine spindle before indexing or replacing inserts. Inspect the insert pocket and clamping screw for wear or debris before seating a new insert to ensure proper contact and runout control.
