The SECO 03276622 is a solid carbide turning insert in the VBMT-MF2 series, designed for precision metal cutting on CNC lathes and turning centers. It carries a CVD-applied Duratomic multilayer coating of TiCN and Al2O3 with a chromium outer layer, providing wear resistance and thermal stability at the cutting zone. The insert features a 35-degree diamond shape, a 3/8-inch inscribed circle, and a 1/64-inch corner radius. With a positive rake geometry and chamfered-and-honed cutting edge, it is suited for finish to semi-finish turning operations. Licensed machinists and CNC operators are the primary installers of this insert.
This insert is rated for use primarily on stainless steel (ISO material group M) and secondarily on steel (ISO material group P), covering material grades M25, M30, and M35. The MF2 chip breaker geometry supports back turning, facing, profiling, and general turning at light to moderate depths of cut. The neutral hand designation means it can be run in standard right-hand tool holders without a handed offset. Typical applications include production turning on medium-duty CNC equipment in job shops, aerospace, and general manufacturing environments.
Designed for use in VBMT-style screw-clamp toolholders. ISO designation VBMT160404-MF2 and industry standard number VBMT331-MF2 can be used to cross-reference compatible holders. Conforms to ANSI and ISO insert standards.
Installation is performed by a qualified machinist or CNC operator. Power down and lock out the machine spindle before changing inserts. Seat the insert fully against the pocket locating surfaces before tightening the clamping screw to ensure proper edge position and prevent insert movement during cutting. Inspect the pocket and screw for wear or damage each time an insert is indexed or replaced.
