The SECO 03275985 is a CNMG431-M5 series indexable turning insert manufactured from solid carbide with a CVD-applied Duratomic multilayer coating of TiCN, Al2O3, and Cr. It features an 80-degree diamond shape, a neutral hand orientation, a 0.5-inch inscribed circle, and a 1/64-inch (0.0157-inch) corner radius. The insert carries a negative rake angle of 17 degrees and a chamfered and honed cutting edge style. With four usable cutting edges per insert, the 03275985 is suited to high-productivity turning, facing, and boring operations on stainless steel and steel workpieces. It is installed by machinists and CNC setup technicians on indexable toolholders designed for CNMG geometry inserts.
This insert is intended for use on CNC turning centers, lathes, and boring machines where controlled chip formation on stainless steel and steel is required. The M5 chip breaker geometry is optimized for medium-depth finishing and semi-finishing passes. The insert covers material grades M25, M30, and M35 under ISO classification, making it applicable across a range of austenitic stainless and carbon steel workpiece conditions. The Duratomic coating classification provides wear resistance and thermal stability at elevated cutting speeds typical of production turning environments.
Designed for use in CNMG-style indexable toolholders that accept clamp, pin, or lever lock insert retention. Applicable to multi-use operations including boring, facing, and turning. Primary workpiece material is stainless steel (ISO code M); secondary workpiece material is steel (ISO code P). ISO material grades M25, M30, and M35 apply.
Installation is performed by qualified machinists or CNC tooling technicians. The machine spindle must be fully stopped and the turret or toolpost locked out before indexing or replacing inserts. Use the appropriate torque-limiting screwdriver or clamping tool specified by the toolholder manufacturer when securing the insert clamp, pin, or lever lock. Inspect the insert pocket and seating surface for chips or debris before seating a new insert to ensure accurate positioning and prevent premature edge failure.
