The SECO 03274169 is a solid carbide turning insert conforming to ANSI code SNMG543-M5 and ISO code SNMG150612-M5. The insert carries a CVD-applied Duratomic multilayer coating of TiCN, Al2O3, and Cr, engineered to deliver high toughness against steel and moderate wear resistance with toughness against stainless steel. The square insert body provides 8 usable cutting edges with a neutral hand orientation, a 90-degree included angle, negative rake, and negative side clearance. At 0.625 inches in length and 0.047 inches corner radius, this insert is sized for medium-duty to roughing passes on CNC lathes and boring bars. Licensed machinists and CNC operators install it in clamp, pin, or lever-lock toolholders.
The 03274169 is suited to external and internal turning, facing, and boring operations on stainless steel as the primary workpiece material, with steel as the secondary target. It is assigned material grades M25, M30, and M35, placing it in the medium-to-heavy roughing range of the ISO P and M material classifications. Typical applications include production turning of 300- and 400-series stainless components and general-purpose steel turning where edge toughness and coating durability are priorities over fine-finish work. The M5 chip breaker geometry is optimized for roughing and medium machining chip control across these material families.
Designed for use in SNMG-style toolholders that accept a 5/8-inch inscribed circle square insert with a 1/4-inch thickness and lever-lock, clamp, or pin retention. Conforms to ANSI insert code SNMG543 and ISO insert code SNMG150612-M5.
Installation is performed by qualified machinists or CNC tooling technicians. Always power down and lock out the machine before indexing or replacing inserts. Use the correct torque wrench and manufacturer-specified fastener for the toolholder clamping system to avoid insert cracking or improper seating. Inspect the toolholder pocket and contact surfaces for wear or debris before seating a new insert.
