The SECO 03273974 is a solid carbide indexable turning insert in the VNMG-MF4 series, designed for precision turning operations on CNC lathes and turning centers. It carries a CVD-applied Duratomic multilayer coating of TiCN, Al2O3, and Cr, engineered to deliver controlled wear resistance and toughness across a range of metalcutting conditions. The 35-degree diamond (rhombic) shape, combined with the MF4 chip breaker geometry, makes this insert well suited for finishing and medium machining passes. With 4 cutting edges per insert and neutral hand orientation, it fits a broad range of toolholder setups. The inscribed circle measures 3/8 inches and insert length is 39/64 inches.
This insert is intended for machining stainless steel as its primary workpiece material and steel as its secondary workpiece material, corresponding to ISO material groups M and P. Grade TM1501 is characterized by moderate wear resistance and high toughness, making it appropriate for interrupted cuts, variable feeds, and difficult-to-machine austenitic and duplex stainless grades encountered in industrial, food processing, and oil and gas applications. Typical operations include back turning, facing, profiling, and general turning. It is installed by machinists and CNC tool setters using clamp, pin, or lever lock holding methods.
Designed for use in VNMG-style toolholders accepting a 331 ANSI size code (ISO 160404) insert. Compatible holding methods include clamp, pin, and lever lock systems. Conforms to ANSI and ISO standards for VNMG insert geometry.
Installation is performed by qualified machinists or CNC tool setters. Power down and de-energize the machine spindle before indexing or replacing inserts. Use the appropriate torque wrench and insert key specified by the toolholder manufacturer when seating the clamp screw or lever lock mechanism. Inspect the insert pocket and seating surface for chips or debris before seating the new insert, as contamination can cause insert rocking and premature edge failure.
