The SECO 03273923 is a CNMG543-MF4 geometry turning insert in grade TM1501, manufactured from solid carbide and coated with a CVD-applied Duratomic multilayer of TiCN, Al2O3, and Cr for extended tool life in demanding cutting operations. The insert features an 80-degree diamond shape (Insert Shape Code C), a 5/8-inch inscribed circle, a 3/64-inch corner radius, and a neutral hand orientation. With four usable cutting edges and a chamfered-and-honed edge preparation, this insert is designed for finishing to medium roughing passes where edge security and coating adhesion are critical. It is sized and toleranced to the CNMG standard under both ANSI and ISO specifications.
This insert is optimized for primary use on stainless steel (ISO material group M, grades M15, M20, and M25) and also performs on carbon and alloy steels (ISO group P). Typical applications include external turning, facing, and boring operations on CNC lathes and turning centers in production shops, job shops, and maintenance machining environments. The MF4 chip breaker geometry is suited for light-to-medium feeds and depths of cut, making it well matched to finishing passes on austenitic and martensitic stainless grades where chip control is a persistent challenge.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement for CNMG543-MF4 inserts used in standard CNMG-style toolholders accepting a 5/8-inch inscribed circle insert with clamp, pin, or lever-lock holding methods. ISO equivalent designation is CNMG160612-MF4.
Installation is performed by qualified machinists or tooling technicians following machine lockout/tagout procedures before any insert indexing or replacement. Seat and clamp surfaces should be cleaned and inspected before seating the insert to ensure proper contact and prevent micro-movement under cut. Use the toolholder manufacturer's specified torque for clamping screws — do not estimate. Index or replace the insert at the first sign of built-up edge, chipping, or surface finish degradation to protect the workpiece and toolholder pocket.
