The SECO 03272984 is a solid carbide milling insert carrying the ANSI and ISO designation OFEX05T305TN-ME07 in manufacturer grade MP2501. This octagon-shaped, single-sided insert is designed for use in face and shoulder milling operations on steel, stainless steel, cast iron, superalloys, and titanium. It features a CVD-applied Duratomic coating combining TiCN and Al2O3 layers for heat resistance and wear performance. The insert measures 0.5000 inches in length and width with a thickness of 0.1484 inches, and delivers a maximum depth of cut of 0.1929 inches. It is held in place by a screw and uses a positive rake geometry with an 18-degree rake angle and T-Land cutting edge style. Machinists and CNC tooling technicians install this insert in compatible milling cutter bodies.
This insert belongs to the OFEX-05 series and is compatible with SECO cutter series R217.43-05 and R220.43-05. Its neutral hand orientation and octagon shape provide 8 usable cutting edges per insert, making it well-suited for high-production face milling of ferrous and difficult-to-machine materials in both roughing and semi-finishing applications. The ME07 chip breaker geometry is optimized for steel as the primary workpiece material, with secondary suitability for stainless steel, cast iron, and superalloys and titanium.

Installation is performed by machining technicians or CNC toolroom personnel. Power down and lock out the machine spindle before seating or indexing inserts. Use the correct torx or hex key to torque the clamping screw to the cutter body manufacturer specification — refer to the cutter body documentation for the required value. Inspect the insert pocket and seating surface for chips or debris before installation to ensure proper seating and runout.
