The SECO 03272983 is a solid carbide milling insert carrying the manufacturer designation OFEX05T305TN-M08 in the MP2501 grade. It features an octagon shape with 8 cutting edges, a neutral hand orientation, and a T-Land cutting edge style with a 0-degree rake angle. The insert measures 0.5000 inches in length and width, with a 0.1484-inch thickness and a 0.5000-inch inscribed circle diameter. The CVD-applied Duratomic coating — TiCN plus Al2O3 — is engineered for extended tool life across demanding steel and multi-material milling applications. It is installed by machinists and CNC tooling technicians in indexable milling cutter bodies.
This insert is suited for face milling, shoulder milling, and general-purpose milling operations in production and job-shop environments. The primary workpiece material is steel (ISO code P), with secondary suitability for stainless steel (M), cast iron (K), and superalloys and titanium (S). The M08 chip breaker geometry supports medium-depth cutting passes. It is held in the cutter body by a screw-clamp method, consistent with standard indexable insert tooling practice. Applications span both roughing and semi-finishing passes depending on depth of cut selection.
Designed for use with SECO cutter series R217.43-05 and R220.43-05. Insert size code is 05T305 within the OFEX-05 series. ANSI and ISO code for this insert is OFEX05T305TN-M08.
Installation is performed by qualified machinists or CNC tooling technicians. Before indexing or replacing inserts, shut down and lock out the machine spindle per established lockout/tagout (LOTO) procedures. Use the appropriate Torx or hex key to the cutter body screw specification listed in the cutter body documentation — do not overtighten or use impact tools on insert screws. Inspect the insert pocket seat and clamping screw for wear or debris before seating a new insert.
