The SECO 03272973 is a solid carbide milling insert carrying the ANSI/ISO designation SEMX1204AFTN-MD19 and manufactured to grade MP1501. The insert features a square shape with a 90-degree included angle, four neutral-hand cutting edges, and a T-Land cutting edge style. A CVD-applied Duratomic coating combining TiCN and Al2O3 layers provides thermal resistance and wear protection during high-demand milling operations. The corner radius measures 0.0441 inches, the inscribed circle is 0.5000 inches, and maximum depth of cut reaches 0.3425 inches. This insert is sold individually but requires a minimum order of 10 pieces per transaction.
This insert is engineered for milling steel as its primary workpiece material, with secondary suitability for cast iron and hard materials. The MD19 chip breaker geometry supports controlled chip evacuation in medium to semi-finishing milling passes. It is designed for use by machinists and tooling technicians working on CNC milling centers in both production and job-shop environments. The SEMX-12 series insert is compatible with cutter bodies R217.53-12 and R220.53-12.
Compatible with SECO cutter series R217.53-12 and R220.53-12. Suitable for milling steel (ISO material code P), cast iron (K), and hard materials (H).
Installation is performed by a machinist or tooling technician. Always index or replace inserts with the spindle powered down and the machine in a locked-out, tagged-out state per applicable shop safety procedures. Use the correct torx or hex key specified by the cutter body manufacturer when tightening the insert screw to avoid seat damage or insert fracture. Inspect the cutter pocket and seating surface for chips or debris before seating the insert.
