The SECO 03272972 is a solid carbide milling insert carrying ANSI and ISO designation SEMX1204AFTN-M15 in manufacturer grade MP1501. This single-sided, square-shape insert is designed for face and shoulder milling operations where consistent edge integrity and thermal resistance are required. The insert features a CVD-applied Duratomic coating of TiCN and Al2O3, a positive rake angle of 4 degrees, and a T-Land cutting edge style. With four usable cutting edges and a 20-degree relief angle, it delivers an efficient cost-per-edge ratio for production milling environments. Licensed machinists and CNC tooling specialists are the primary installers and users of this insert.
This insert is suited for milling steel, cast iron, and hard materials in both roughing and semi-finishing applications. The M15 chip breaker geometry handles a broad chip load range, making it practical for variable feed-rate programs. It is compatible with SECO cutter series R217.53-12 and R220.53-12. The 0.0441-inch corner radius reduces edge chipping on interrupted cuts and entry conditions common in production machining of ferrous workpieces.
Designed for use in SECO cutter series R217.53-12 and R220.53-12. Verify cutter body pocket geometry and insert seat dimensions before installation to confirm fitment.
Insert replacement should be performed by a qualified machinist or CNC tooling technician with the machine fully stopped and locked out per facility lockout/tagout procedures. Use the appropriate Torx or hex key to seat and torque the clamping screw per the cutter body manufacturer specifications — do not over-tighten, as carbide inserts are brittle and will crack under excessive clamping force. Inspect the insert pocket and seating surfaces for chips or debris before loading a new insert. Confirm correct insert orientation and hand before resuming operation.
