The SECO 03272968 is a solid carbide milling insert carrying the manufacturer designation SEMX1204AFTN-ME12 in the MP2501 grade. It is a square-shaped, single-sided insert in the SEMX-12 series, designed for use in indexable milling cutters across production and job-shop environments. The insert features a TiCN plus Al2O3 Duratomic CVD coating applied over a fine-grain carbide substrate, delivering wear resistance and thermal stability during interrupted and continuous cuts. With 4 cutting edges, a 0.5000-inch inscribed circle, and a positive rake geometry with a T-Land cutting edge style, this insert is suited for moderate to aggressive milling applications. It is installed by machinists and CNC programmers working to ISO tooling standards.
This insert is engineered primarily for milling steel, with secondary material compatibility covering stainless steel, cast iron, superalloys, and titanium. The ME12 chip breaker designation targets general-purpose milling where controlled chip formation across a range of workpiece materials is required. The insert uses screw-holding retention and fits cutter bodies within the R217.53-12 and R220.53-12 series. Typical applications include face milling, shoulder milling, and pocket milling on CNC machining centers in both light and medium cutting scenarios. The 20-degree relief angle and 21-degree rake angle support efficient cutting action with reduced cutting forces on the workpiece.
Designed for use with Seco cutter series R217.53-12 and R220.53-12 indexable milling bodies. Conforms to ANSI and ISO code SEMX1204AFTN-ME12. Minimum order quantity is 10 units; each package contains 1 insert.
Installation is performed by qualified machinists or tooling technicians following ISO indexable insert seating procedures. Ensure the cutter body and insert pocket are free of chips and debris before seating the insert. Use the manufacturer-specified torque driver for the clamping screw — do not over-torque, as this can fracture the carbide substrate. Verify correct insert orientation and edge index before resuming machine operation.
