The SECO 03272928 is a solid carbide milling insert in the SNMX-14 series, designed for face and shoulder milling applications in metalworking environments. Carrying the ISO/ANSI designation SNMX1407ANTR-M16, this insert features a square shape with a 90-degree included angle, a negative rake geometry, and a T-Land cutting edge style. The MP2501 grade uses a CVD-applied Duratomic coating of TiCN and Al2O3, which improves wear resistance and thermal stability during interrupted or continuous cuts. The insert measures 14.00 mm in inscribed circle diameter and 6.59 mm thick, with a corner radius of 0.0394 inches. It delivers up to 8 usable cutting edges on a double-sided configuration, making it a high-utilization consumable for production milling operations. Licensed machinists and CNC setup technicians are the primary installers.
This insert is suited for milling steel as its primary workpiece material, with secondary suitability for stainless steel, cast iron, superalloys, and titanium. The right-hand, screw-held mount and M16 chip breaker geometry are optimized for medium material removal rates where chip control across varying feed rates is required. It is intended for use in production machining centers handling both roughing and semi-finishing passes. The maximum depth of cut is 6.00 mm. Applications span general-purpose steel components in job-shop and production environments where consistent edge life and predictable chip formation are priorities.
Compatible with SECO cutter bodies in the following series: R217.54-14, R217.56-14, R220.54-14, and R220.56-14. Verify cutter pocket style and screw specification before installation.
Installation is performed by CNC machinists or tooling technicians. Always power down and lock out the machine spindle before seating or indexing inserts. Use the manufacturer-specified torque screwdriver for the insert clamping screw to avoid pocket damage or insert cracking. Inspect the pocket seat and clamping screw for wear before installing a new edge.
