The SECO 03272919 is a solid carbide milling insert in the XNEX-08 series, grade MP2501, designed for indexable milling operations on steel and a range of difficult-to-machine materials. The insert features a CVD-applied Duratomic coating combining TiCN and Al2O3 layers for wear resistance and thermal stability at the cutting edge. The trigon (XNEX) shape provides a negative rake geometry with a T-Land cutting edge style and delivers 6 usable cutting edges per insert. At 0.2539 inches thick with a 0.4913-inch inscribed circle and a maximum depth of cut of 0.2953 inches, this insert is suited to medium-duty face and shoulder milling passes where edge consistency and tool life matter.
This insert is intended for use in indexable milling cutters in professional machining environments including CNC machining centers and manual knee mills. It is compatible with cutter series R217.96-08 and R220.96-08 as specified by the manufacturer. Primary workpiece material is steel (ISO material code P), with secondary suitability for stainless steel (M), cast iron (K), and superalloys and titanium (S). The insert is held in the cutter body by a screw and is right-hand oriented. It is a double-sided insert, maximizing the number of usable edges per piece. Installation and indexing are typically performed by machinists or tooling technicians.
Designed for use with Seco cutter series R217.96-08 and R220.96-08. ANSI and ISO code XNEX080616TR-MD15. Insert size code 080616. Verify cutter body pocket specifications before indexing.
Indexing and replacement are performed by a machinist or tooling technician with the machine powered down and in a locked-out state per facility lockout/tagout procedures. Use the appropriate Torx or hex key as specified by the cutter body manufacturer when seating the clamping screw — do not overtighten. Inspect the pocket seating surface for chips or debris before installing a new insert. Confirm insert orientation and rake direction match the cutter body design before resuming operation.
