The SECO 03272902 is a solid carbide milling insert carrying the ANSI/ISO designation XNEX040304TR-M08 and manufacturer grade MP2501. This double-sided trigon-shaped insert features six cutting edges and a CVD-applied Duratomic coating of TiCN plus Al2O3, designed to deliver extended tool life when milling steel and related workpiece materials. The negative rake geometry with a T-Land cutting edge style and a 0.0157-inch corner radius provide stability and controlled chip formation in demanding milling applications. The insert is held in place by screw clamping and is compatible with the SECO R217-96-04 and R220.96-04 cutter series.
This insert is suited for milling operations in steel as its primary workpiece material, with secondary capability in stainless steel, cast iron, superalloys, and titanium. Its M08 chip breaker geometry is optimized for medium-depth cuts up to 0.1575 inches. Typical applications include face milling, shoulder milling, and general-purpose material removal in job shop or production environments where consistent performance across ferrous and difficult-to-machine materials is required. The right-hand orientation and Series XNEX-04 classification make tooling selection straightforward for machinists setting up compatible cutter bodies.
Designed for use with SECO cutter series R217-96-04 and R220.96-04. Insert style XNEX-04 series, right-hand orientation, screw-clamped mounting.
Installation is performed by machining professionals following standard insert indexing procedures. Ensure the cutter body pocket is clean and free of chips or damage before seating the insert. Torque the clamping screw to the cutter body manufacturer specification found in the tool documentation. Inspect all cutting edges before use and index or replace the insert when edge wear reaches the limit defined by your shop's tool life criteria.
