The SECO 03197132 is a CAT40 taper shank shell mill holder designed for mounting shell mills and face mills on CNC machining centers. It features a 1.0000 inch pilot diameter and a 2.2500 inch nose diameter, providing a secure, concentric interface between the spindle and the cutting tool. With an overall length of 5.6190 inches and a projection from flange to nose end of 2.2500 inches, it offers a stable, low-overhang setup suitable for high-feed face milling operations. Through-coolant capability allows coolant delivery directly to the cutting edge, helping manage heat and chip evacuation during aggressive cuts. Machinists and CNC setup technicians install this holder on CAT40-spindle vertical and horizontal machining centers.
This shell mill holder is suited for production machining environments where face milling, shoulder milling, or large-diameter indexable milling operations are performed. The CAT40 taper is one of the most widely used spindle interfaces in North American machining shops, making this holder a standard fit for a broad range of knee mills, VMCs, and HMCs equipped with that spindle type. It is packaged individually and sold as a single unit. The through-coolant feature makes it particularly well suited for applications involving difficult-to-machine materials or deep-reach setups where flood coolant alone is insufficient.
Designed as an OEM-style shell mill holder for CAT40-spindle machining centers accepting standard shell mill arbor pilot diameters of 1.0000 inch.
Installation is performed by qualified machinists or CNC tooling technicians. The machine spindle must be fully powered down and the tool changer disabled before mounting or removing holders. Taper surfaces should be cleaned and inspected for nicks or contamination before seating the holder, as any debris will affect runout and tool life. Torque the retention knob to the machining center manufacturer's specification and verify drawbar engagement before operation.
