The SECO 03120429 is a polycrystalline cubic boron nitride (PCBN) turning insert with a TiAlN PVD coating, designed for high-speed machining of hard and abrasive materials. The insert features an 80-degree diamond (rhombic) shape with a neutral hand orientation and a flat-top chip breaker geometry. With an inscribed circle of 0.375 inches and a corner radius of 0.0315 inches, it delivers precise, controlled cuts in demanding applications. Manufacturer grade CH3515 targets cast iron and hard materials in the K10, K20, K30, H30, and H40 material grade ranges. This insert is a multi-tipped design offering two cutting edges and is installed using a screw-type holding method.
This insert is suited for boring, facing, and turning operations on cast iron and hard workpiece materials where high wear resistance and edge integrity are critical. The chamfered and honed cutting edge style helps manage entry forces and extend tool life under continuous or interrupted cut conditions. Machinists and CNC tooling specialists working with hardened ferrous components, gray iron, and nodular iron will find this insert appropriate for both roughing and semi-finishing passes within its rated depth-of-cut range. Installation should be performed by a qualified machinist or CNC tooling technician. Ensure the machine spindle is fully stopped and the toolholder is secured before seating or indexing the insert. Use the appropriate torx or hex key to tighten the clamping screw to the toolholder manufacturer's specified torque. Inspect the insert pocket and seating surface for chips or debris before installation to ensure proper insert support and runout control.
