The SECO 03115968 is a 6-flute solid carbide ball end mill engineered for high-performance material removal in demanding machining environments. It carries a 5/8-inch diameter with a matching 5/8-inch straight-cylindrical shank and delivers a 1-5/8-inch length of cut at a 38-degree medium helix angle. The AlTiN PVD coating provides thermal resistance and extended tool life when cutting hard and abrasive materials. Variable index geometry reduces chatter and improves surface finish during aggressive roughing passes. The single-end configuration and 4-inch overall length suit a wide range of CNC milling setups where rigidity and chip evacuation are priorities.
This end mill is designed for roughing operations on steel, stainless steel, cast iron, and high-temperature alloys, covering ISO material categories P, M, K, and S. It performs in vertical machining centers and horizontal mills running right-hand spindle rotation. The SB638 series targets applications where tool deflection must be minimized and consistent depth of cut is critical across multi-pass profiling, slotting, and 3D contouring operations on difficult workpiece materials.
Designed for use on CNC milling machines with right-hand spindle rotation and standard straight-bore toolholders accepting a 5/8-inch shank. Primary workpiece materials include steel, stainless steel, cast iron, and high-temperature alloys (ISO material codes P, M, K, S).
Installation and tool changes should be performed by a qualified machinist with the spindle fully stopped and machine in a safe, locked-out state. Secure the shank in a precision collet or end mill holder rated for the shank diameter to maintain runout within the specified TIR maximum of 0.0005 inches. Verify tool projection and reach against the programmed toolpath before beginning the cut. Do not exceed the tool manufacturer's recommended speeds and feeds for the workpiece material and coating type.
