The SECO 03115962 is a solid carbide square end mill designed for precision milling operations across a wide range of materials. This single-end tool features 6 spiral flutes with a right-hand cut and right-hand flute orientation, an AlTiN (aluminum titanium nitride) coating for extended tool life at elevated temperatures, and a micrograin carbide substrate for edge stability. It is centercutting, allowing direct plunge entry. With a 0.5 inch mill diameter, 1.625 inch length of cut, and 4 inch overall length, this end mill is built for long-reach finishing and slotting applications where rigidity and surface finish matter. Machinists in job shops, tool rooms, and production environments rely on this class of tool for ferrous and exotic alloy work.
The 03115962 is suited for use in CNC machining centers and manual knee mills handling steel, stainless, titanium, and hardened alloys where heat generation is a primary concern. The AlTiN coating performs well in dry or minimal-lubrication cutting conditions. The variable helix geometry helps reduce chatter and harmonics during deep-pocket or side-milling passes. The straight cylindrical shank (0.5 inch diameter) seats directly in standard ER or side-lock toolholders used in most production setups. This is a long-series tool, making it appropriate where standard-reach end mills cannot clear part features or fixture components.
Designed for use in standard 0.5 inch ER collet chucks, milling chucks, or side-lock holders on CNC vertical and horizontal machining centers. Part of the SECO SCS638 series.
Installation should be performed by a qualified machinist or tooling technician. Ensure the spindle is fully stopped and machine is in a safe state before changing tooling. Seat the straight cylindrical shank to the recommended gauge line depth in the holder and torque the collet nut or set screw per the toolholder manufacturer specification. Verify runout with a dial indicator after setup before engaging the cut; excessive runout will accelerate wear on a carbide tool of this type.
