The SECO 03115955 is a 6-flute solid carbide ball end mill from the SB638 series, engineered for aggressive roughing and finishing operations in demanding materials. The tool features a 0.5 inch mill diameter, a 0.5 inch length of cut, and a 2.5 inch overall length with a straight-cylindrical 0.5 inch shank. An AlTiN PVD coating provides heat and oxidation resistance, extending tool life in high-speed ferrous and exotic alloy machining. The 38-degree medium helix angle supports chip evacuation while maintaining surface finish. The variable index flute geometry reduces harmonic vibration during cuts. Micrograin carbide substrate adds edge toughness and wear resistance across a range of cut depths.
This end mill is suited for single-end milling operations on steel, stainless steel, cast iron, and high-temperature alloys (ISO material groups P, M, K, and S). Typical applications include CNC vertical and horizontal machining centers in job shops, aerospace, and general manufacturing environments. The stub-length profile keeps deflection low during short-reach operations. Center-cutting capability allows plunge entry. Right-hand cut and right-hand flute direction are standard for conventional CNC setups.

Installation should be performed by a qualified machinist or CNC setup technician. Ensure the spindle is fully stopped and the machine is locked out before changing tooling. Verify holder bore cleanliness and proper collet torque to maintain runout within the TIR maximum of 0.0005 inches. Confirm feed rate and spindle speed parameters are appropriate for the workpiece material before initiating a cut.
