The SECO 03115944 is a solid carbide ball end mill designed for high-performance metal removal in demanding machining applications. Part of the SB638 series, it features a 5/16-inch cutting diameter, a 3/4-inch length of cut, and six flutes with a 38-degree medium helix angle. The variable index geometry reduces chatter and improves surface finish during aggressive cuts. An AlTiN PVD coating extends tool life in high-heat environments. This end mill is used by machinists and toolroom professionals in CNC milling operations requiring tight tolerances and efficient chip evacuation.
This tool is designed for roughing operations on steel, stainless steel, cast iron, and high-temperature alloys. The short-length, straight-cylindrical shank configuration suits standard collet or end mill holder setups on vertical and horizontal machining centers. The center-cutting design allows plunge entry, making it suitable for both slot milling and profile work. Right-hand cut and right-hand flute direction are standard for conventional CNC spindle configurations. The 0.1563-inch ball nose radius enables contoured surface work and blending cuts.
Designed for machining steel, stainless steel, cast iron, and high-temperature alloys (ISO material codes P, M, K, S). Fits standard 5/16-inch collets and end mill holders. Part of the SECO SB638 series; manufacturer catalog number SB638-0.313-D2-B.0-Z6.
Installation is performed by a qualified machinist or CNC setup technician. Ensure the spindle is fully stopped and the machine is in a safe state before changing tooling. Use a properly sized collet or shrink-fit holder and verify runout does not exceed the specified TIR maximum of 0.0005 inches before beginning a cut. Follow the tool manufacturer's recommended speeds and feeds for the workpiece material to avoid premature coating wear or edge chipping.
