The SECO 03115938 is a 6-flute solid carbide ball end mill designed for high-performance milling in demanding material applications. With a 0.250-inch mill diameter and a 5/8-inch length of cut, this tool delivers aggressive material removal in a compact, single-end configuration. The AlTiN PVD coating provides thermal resistance and extended tool life when cutting ferrous and exotic materials. A 38-degree medium helix angle combined with a variable index geometry reduces vibration and improves surface finish. Micrograin carbide construction ensures edge integrity under high cutting loads. Licensed machinists and CNC tooling technicians install this tool in standard 1/4-inch straight-cylindrical shank holders.
This end mill is suited for roughing operations on steel, stainless steel, cast iron, superalloys, and titanium, covering ISO material classifications P, M, K, and S. The SB638 series is optimized for applications where heat generation and tool deflection are primary concerns. Its 2.000-inch overall length and 0.625-inch reach length make it well suited for shallow-to-moderate pocket milling and profiling in vertical and horizontal machining centers. No extended reach or coolant-through capability is incorporated, making it appropriate for standard flood or mist coolant setups.
Designed as a direct-fit replacement for applications specifying the SECO SB638 series in 1/4-inch diameter. Compatible with standard 1/4-inch straight-cylindrical shank collet chucks and end mill holders. Primary workpiece materials include steel, stainless steel, cast iron, superalloys, and titanium (ISO P, M, K, S classifications).
Installation should be performed by a qualified machinist or CNC tooling technician. Ensure the machine spindle is fully stopped and locked out before changing tooling. Confirm collet or holder bore is clean and free of debris before seating the shank; check runout against the stated TIR maximum of 0.0005 inches after clamping. Do not exceed the rated depth of cut for the workpiece material group.
