The SECO 03115937 is a 6-flute solid carbide ball end mill designed for high-performance roughing operations in demanding materials. Part of the SB638 series, it features a 0.250 inch mill diameter, a 0.250 inch length of cut, and a 2.000 inch overall length with a straight cylindrical 0.250 inch shank. The 38-degree medium helix angle and variable index geometry help reduce chatter and improve chip evacuation. An AlTiN PVD coating adds heat and wear resistance, making this tool well-suited for sustained cuts in hard or abrasive workpiece materials. Licensed machinists and CNC operators are the primary users of this tool.
This end mill is engineered for roughing applications in steel, stainless steel, cast iron, and high-temperature alloys, covering ISO material groups P, M, K, and S. The stub-length configuration keeps the tool rigid in setups where deflection is a concern. The centercutting design allows plunge entry, adding versatility in pocket and slot milling operations. Designed as an OEM-style replacement or direct-use solid carbide ball end mill in standard 1/4 inch straight-shank tool holders, collets, and shrink-fit chucks compatible with 0.250 inch shank diameters. Primary workpiece materials include steel, stainless steel, cast iron, and high-temperature alloys per ISO groups P, M, K, and S.
Installation is performed by qualified CNC machinists or manual mill operators. Ensure the spindle is fully stopped and the machine is locked out before changing tooling. Seat the shank fully in the collet or tool holder and torque the retention mechanism to the tool holder manufacturer specification. Verify runout does not exceed the maximum TIR of 0.0005 inches before beginning the cut cycle.
