The SECO 03100386 is a DNMG542-M5 indexable turning insert manufactured from solid carbide and finished with a CVD-applied Duratomic multilayer coating of TiCN, Al2O3, and Cr. It carries the TP3501 manufacturer grade and features a 55-degree diamond (D-style) insert shape with a neutral hand orientation. The inscribed circle measures 0.625 inches and the corner radius is 0.0315 inches. With four available cutting edges and a chamfered and honed edge preparation, it is suited for medium-to-roughing steel and stainless steel turning applications performed by machinists and CNC lathe operators in production and job-shop environments.
This insert is designed for general turning, facing, boring, and back-turning operations. The M5 chip breaker geometry targets steel workpieces across material grades P20, P30, and P40, with secondary capability on stainless steel (ISO M-class materials). The negative rake angle and N-clearance code are consistent with rigid, stable tooling setups on conventional and CNC lathes. Typical maximum depth of cut reaches 0.7165 inches, making it suitable for moderate to aggressive material removal passes in production environments.
Designed for DNMG-style toolholders accepting a 542 insert size with a 0.25-inch center hole diameter. Compatible holding methods include clamp, pin, and lever-lock systems. Meets ANSI and ISO standards; ISO designation is DNMG190608-M5. Multi-use application includes back turning, boring, facing, and turning.
Installation is performed by qualified machinists or CNC setup technicians. Always power down and lock out the machine spindle before indexing or replacing inserts. Use the correct torque wrench and manufacturer-specified clamping hardware for the toolholder type (clamp, pin, or lever lock) to ensure proper seating. Inspect the insert pocket and shim for damage before seating a new insert, and confirm the insert is fully seated and secure before resuming cutting operations.
