The SECO 03096564 is a triangular carbide turning insert in the TNMG322-MF3 series, carrying the TP3501 manufacturer grade and a Duratomic CVD multilayer coating of TiCN, Al2O3, and Cr. It is designed for negative-rake external turning operations including facing, boring, back turning, and profile work on CNC and manual lathes. The insert features a chamfered and honed cutting edge with the MF3 chip breaker geometry, which is optimized for finishing and medium cuts on steel and stainless steel. With 6 usable cutting edges per insert, it delivers strong indexing value for production environments. Licensed machinists and CNC operators are the primary installers.
This insert is suited for precision turning of steel and stainless steel in both production and job-shop environments. The MF3 chip breaker geometry performs well in light-to-medium depth-of-cut applications where controlled chip formation and surface finish are priorities. Material grades P20, P30, and P40 cover a broad range of steel machinability classes, and the M-grade secondary designation extends utility to austenitic and duplex stainless steel. It is compatible with standard TNMG-style toolholders using clamp, pin, or lever-lock holding methods.

Primary workpiece material is steel (ISO code P); secondary workpiece material is stainless steel (ISO code M). Material grades P20, P30, and P40 apply. Insert indexing and replacement should be performed with the machine powered down and the spindle fully stopped. Use the appropriate torque wrench or clamp key specified by the toolholder manufacturer when securing the insert — do not overtighten the clamp or lever-lock mechanism. Inspect the toolholder pocket for wear or debris before seating a new insert. Dispose of used carbide inserts in accordance with local regulations for metal waste.
