The SECO 03096547 is an SNMG543-M5 series indexable turning insert manufactured from solid carbide and finished with a CVD-applied Duratomic coating system consisting of TiCN, Al2O3, and Cr layers. Carrying the TP3501 manufacturer grade, this insert is engineered for negative-rake cutting in demanding metal-removal operations. The square insert geometry features a 90-degree included angle, a 5/8-inch inscribed circle, and a 3/64-inch corner radius. Eight usable cutting edges are available per insert. The M5 chip breaker geometry and chamfered-and-honed cutting edge style are optimized for stable chip control in medium to heavy-duty turning applications on steel and stainless steel workpieces.
This insert is suited for use in CNC lathes and turning centers performing boring, facing, and turning operations. It targets P-grade (steel) and M-grade (stainless steel) workpiece materials, with a material grade classification of P20, P30, and P40. The SNMG-M5 series addresses general-purpose and interrupted-cut scenarios where consistent chip evacuation and tool life are priorities. Designed as a direct-fit replacement for SNMG543-M5 and ISO equivalent SNMG150612-M5 style toolholders using clamp, pin, or lever-lock insert retention. Compatible with toolholder systems accommodating a 5/8-inch inscribed circle, 1/4-inch insert thickness, and 1/4-inch hole diameter. Suitable for steel (P20, P30, P40) and stainless steel workpiece materials per ISO and ANSI classification standards.
Installation is performed by qualified machinists or CNC tooling technicians. The machine spindle must be powered down and the turret or toolpost must be in a safe, locked position before replacing or indexing inserts. Use the appropriate torque wrench and fastener specified by the toolholder manufacturer for the clamp, pin, or lever-lock retention system to avoid seat damage or insert cracking. Inspect the insert pocket and seat for chips or debris before seating the new insert.
