The SECO 03096388 is a solid carbide turning insert in the DNMU-FF2 series, designed for general turning operations on steel and stainless steel workpieces. It features a 55-degree diamond shape (Insert Shape Code D) with a neutral hand orientation and a 0-degree relief angle (Clearance Code N). The TP3501 grade uses a CVD-applied Duratomic multilayer coating — TiCN, Al2O3, and Cr — engineered to resist wear and extend edge life in moderate to heavy interrupted and continuous cuts. With four available cutting edges and an FF2 chip breaker geometry, this insert delivers consistent chip control across a range of material removal rates. Licensed SECO tooling is typically installed by machinists and CNC lathe operators in production environments.
This insert is suited for back turning, boring, facing, and general turning applications in both roughing and semi-finishing operations. Primary target workpiece materials are steel (ISO material code P, grades P20, P30, and P40) and stainless steel (ISO material code M). The 3/8-inch inscribed circle, 3/16-inch thickness, and 0.4409-inch maximum depth of cut make it a practical choice for medium-duty toolholders on manual and CNC lathes. The FF2 chip breaker geometry maintains control across a range of feed rates and depths. The honed cutting edge style reduces micro-chipping at the edge when entering hardened or abrasive grades of steel.

Installation is performed by qualified machinists or CNC tooling technicians. Power down and lock out the machine spindle before seating or indexing the insert. Confirm the toolholder pocket and clamping mechanism are clean and free of chips before seating — debris under the insert will cause premature edge failure. Do not exceed the maximum depth of cut of 0.4409 inches, and index to a fresh cutting edge at first signs of edge wear rather than running the insert to failure.
