The SECO 03096368 is a DNMG431-M5 series solid carbide turning insert with a TP3501 grade designation and Duratomic CVD coating stack of TiCN, Al2O3, and Cr. It features a 55-degree diamond insert shape, a neutral hand orientation, and a 0.5000-inch inscribed circle with a corner radius of 0.0157 inches. The insert carries four cutting edges and a chamfered and honed cutting edge style for controlled entry into the workpiece. It is designed for negative rake toolholders and is held by clamp, pin, or lever-lock methods. Licensed machinists and CNC turning specialists install and index this insert in production and maintenance turning operations.
This insert is suited for general turning, facing, boring, and back turning in steel and stainless steel applications. The TP3501 grade with M5 chip breaker geometry targets medium to roughing cuts in ISO material groups P (steel, material grades P20, P30, P40) and M (stainless steel). It performs in both production CNC turning centers and manual engine lathes where DNMG-style toolholders are used. The Duratomic coating classification enhances wear resistance and thermal stability during interrupted and continuous cuts at production feed rates.
Designed for use in DNMG-style negative-rake toolholders that accept a 0.5000-inch inscribed circle, 3/16-inch thick diamond-55 insert with a 0.2028-inch hole diameter. Compatible with clamp, pin, and lever-lock holding methods. Primary workpiece materials are steel (ISO P group, grades P20, P30, P40) and stainless steel (ISO M group).
Insert indexing and replacement should be performed by a qualified machinist with the machine in a full stop and all spindle motion confirmed stopped before touching the insert pocket. Use appropriate insert clamp torque as specified by the toolholder manufacturer, not this insert specification. Inspect the insert pocket seat and shim for chips or damage before seating a new insert. Follow the toolholder manufacturer's clamping method guidelines for clamp, pin, or lever-lock configurations to ensure proper seating and safe cutting forces.
