The SECO 03096358 is a DCMT-style indexable turning insert designed for precision metal cutting in CNC turning applications. It carries the ISO designation DCMT11T302-F1 and is manufactured to grade TP3501 with a Duratomic CVD-applied multilayer coating of TiCN, Al2O3, and Cr. The insert features a 55-degree diamond shape, a 0.3750-inch inscribed circle, a 0.20 mm (0.0079 inch) corner radius, and a sharp F1 chip breaker geometry with a positive rake. It is held in the toolholder via screw clamp and provides 2 cutting edges per insert. Licensed machinists and CNC setup technicians install this insert in production and job-shop turning environments.
This insert is suited for external turning, facing, boring, and back turning operations. Its primary workpiece material is steel (ISO material code P), covering material grades P20, P30, and P40. It also performs on stainless steel (ISO material code M). The F1 chip breaker geometry is optimized for finishing to light roughing passes on these materials. The Duratomic coating process is engineered to extend tool life and maintain edge integrity at elevated cutting speeds typical of modern CNC lathes.
Designed for use in DCMT-style screw-clamp turning toolholders conforming to ANSI and ISO insert seating standards. Compatible workpiece materials include steel (P20, P30, P40) and stainless steel as defined by ISO material codes P and M.
Installation is performed by licensed machinists or CNC tooling technicians. Power down and lock out the machine spindle before indexing or replacing the insert. Use the appropriate Torx or hex key to secure the clamping screw to the toolholder manufacturer's specified procedure — do not overtighten, as carbide inserts are brittle and can fracture under excessive clamp force. Verify correct seating of the insert in the pocket before resuming cutting operations.
