The SECO 03096355 is a solid carbide turning insert in the DCMT-F1 series, designed for precision finishing operations on CNC and manual lathes. It carries the ISO designation DCMT070208-F1 and ANSI code DCMT21.52-F1. The TP3501 grade features a multilayer CVD Duratomic coating of TiCN, Al2O3, and Cr, delivering moderate wear resistance with maintained toughness. The 55-degree diamond (rhombic) shape, positive rake geometry, and sharp cutting edge make this insert well suited to light finishing passes where surface finish and dimensional accuracy are the priority. Two cutting edges are available per insert, and the screw-lock holding method keeps the insert firmly seated during operation.
This insert is primarily applied to steel and stainless steel workpieces, covering ISO material codes P and M. It is rated for grades P20, P30, and P40 steel and stainless steel applications requiring moderate wear resistance and toughness. Typical use cases include finishing, back turning, boring, and facing operations in production turning cells or job shop environments. The F1 chip breaker geometry is optimized for finishing cuts at lower depths of cut and feeds. Installation is performed by qualified machinists or CNC tooling technicians. Power down and lock out the machine spindle before seating or removing inserts. Use the correct torque screwdriver for the insert clamping screw to avoid cracking the carbide substrate — do not overtighten by hand or with standard hex keys without a calibrated tool. Inspect the insert pocket and seating surface for chips or debris before seating a fresh insert to ensure proper contact and runout control.
