The SECO 03096354 is a DCMT070204-MF2 turning insert in grade TP3501, designed for precision metal cutting in CNC lathe and turning center applications. The insert features a 55-degree diamond shape with a positive rake geometry and an MF2 chip breaker profile optimized for finish to medium turning. The cutting edges are chamfered and honed for controlled engagement. A multilayer CVD coating — TiCN, Al2O3, and Cr — under the Duratomic classification provides wear resistance and thermal stability. With a 0.25-inch inscribed circle and a 1/64-inch corner radius, this insert is suited for light to medium depths of cut on steel and stainless steel workpieces. Two cutting edges per insert allow for cost-effective usage before replacement.
This insert is intended for use in steel (ISO P) and stainless steel (ISO M) turning operations, covering material grades P20, P30, and P40. Typical applications include back turning, boring, facing, and general OD turning on CNC lathes and turning centers in job shop, production, and maintenance machining environments. The screw-lock holding method and DCMT-style geometry are compatible with standard DCMT-style toolholders used across a wide range of lathe setups. The neutral hand orientation suits most standard right-hand and left-hand holders designed for DCMT inserts.

Installation is performed by a machinist or CNC tooling technician. Power down and lock out the machine spindle before seating or replacing inserts. Use the appropriate Torx or hex key to secure the clamping screw to the toolholder per the toolholder manufacturer's specified procedure — do not overtighten. Inspect the insert pocket and seating surface for chips or debris before installing a new insert to ensure proper seating and edge repeatability.
