The SECO 03096312 is a CNMG434-MR7 indexable turning insert in grade TP3501, designed for medium to heavy material removal on steel and stainless steel workpieces. The insert features an 80-degree diamond shape with a negative rake angle and a T-Land cutting edge style. CVD-applied Duratomic coating layers TiCN, Al2O3, and Cr provide thermal stability and wear resistance during continuous and interrupted cuts. With four usable cutting edges per insert and an inscribed circle of 0.5000 inches, this carbide insert delivers consistent performance across boring, facing, and turning operations on CNC lathes and turning centers.
This insert is suited for production turning applications in metalworking shops, toolrooms, and job shops running steel (ISO material group P) and stainless steel (ISO material group M). Typical material grades include P20, P30, and P40. The MR7 chip breaker geometry controls chip formation at moderate to high feed rates, making it appropriate for general-purpose roughing and semi-finishing passes. It is compatible with CNMG-style toolholders using clamp, pin, or lever-lock holding methods.
Fits CNMG-style toolholders designed for CNMG434 inserts using clamp, pin, or lever-lock holding methods. ISO equivalent designation is CNMG120416-MR7. Conforms to ANSI and ISO insert standards.
Insert installation and indexing should be performed by a qualified machinist or tooling technician with the machine in a locked-out, de-energized state. Seat the insert fully against the pocket locating surfaces before engaging the clamping mechanism. Inspect the insert pocket for chips or debris before seating a new edge. Follow the toolholder manufacturer torque and clamping guidelines for the specific holding method in use.
