The SECO 03093944 is a solid carbide turning insert in the WNMG-M5 series, designed for high-productivity metal cutting on CNC lathes and turning centers. Featuring a CVD-applied Duratomic coating of TiCN, Al2O3, and Cr, this insert delivers wear resistance and thermal stability across a range of cutting conditions. The 80-degree trigon shape (Insert Shape Code W) provides six usable cutting edges per insert. With a 1/2-inch inscribed circle and a 3/64-inch corner radius (0.0472 inches), it is suited for medium to heavy roughing passes in steel and stainless steel. Qualified machinists and tooling technicians install and index these inserts as part of routine cutting tool maintenance.
This insert is rated for use in boring, facing, and turning operations. Its primary workpiece material designation is Steel (ISO Code P), with a secondary rating for Stainless Steel (ISO Code M). It falls within material grades P20, P30, and P40, making it appropriate for a broad range of medium-duty roughing and semi-finishing applications. The M5 chip breaker geometry is optimized for consistent chip control in these material categories. It conforms to both ANSI and ISO standards and carries the ISO designation WNMG080412-M5.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement turning insert for toolholders accepting WNMG-style inserts with a 0.2028-inch hole diameter and clamp, pin, or lever lock insert holding methods, conforming to ANSI and ISO WNMG080412-M5 standards.
Indexing and replacement of turning inserts is performed by qualified machinists or tooling technicians. Always power down and lock out the machine spindle before indexing or replacing inserts. Use the correct clamping screw torque procedure specified by the toolholder manufacturer — do not overtighten, as this can fracture the insert seat. Inspect the insert pocket and shim seat for debris or damage before seating a new insert.
