The SECO 03091462 is a solid carbide milling insert carrying the manufacturer part designation SNMU120410TN-MD13 in the MK1500 grade. It is a square-shaped, double-sided insert engineered for face and shoulder milling operations, offering 8 usable cutting edges per insert. The CVD-applied Duratomic coating — a multilayer TiCN and Al2O3 stack — delivers thermal stability and wear resistance suited to high-volume material removal. The insert measures 12.00 mm in both length and width, 5.00 mm thick, and carries a 1.00 mm corner radius. It is installed by machinists and toolroom technicians in CNC and manual milling applications targeting cast iron workpieces.
This insert is designed specifically for cast iron machining, where the TiCN plus Al2O3 CVD coating provides the abrasion resistance that cast iron demands. The MD13 chip breaker geometry controls chip formation at moderate to aggressive feed rates. The neutral hand orientation makes it compatible with both left- and right-hand cutter bodies. It fits the R220.88-12 cutter series and is rated for a maximum depth of cut of 12.00 mm (0.3858 inches). Typical applications include face milling engine blocks, brake components, pump housings, and other ferrous castings in production environments.
Compatible with the R220.88-12 cutter series as specified by the manufacturer. The SNMU-12 series insert is screw-held and designed for use in milling cutter bodies accepting SNMU120410 geometry inserts.
Installation is performed by a qualified machinist or toolroom technician. Always power down and lock out the machine spindle before seating or indexing inserts. Use the correct torx or hex key to the cutter body manufacturer's specified procedure — do not overtighten the clamping screw, as this can fracture the carbide substrate. Inspect the pocket seating surface for debris or damage before installing a fresh insert.
