The SECO 03064540 is a solid carbide turning insert in the WNMA series, designed for high-productivity metal cutting operations on CNC and manual lathes. It carries the industry-standard designation WNMA332 and is finished with a CVD-applied Duratomic TiCN, Al2O3, and Cr multilayer coating that extends tool life and reduces built-up edge on abrasive workpiece materials. The insert features an 80-degree trigon shape with a neutral hand orientation, a 0-degree rake angle, and a chamfered and honed cutting edge style. It provides 6 usable cutting edges per insert, making it a cost-effective option for shops running high volumes of cast iron and steel parts.
This insert is suited for general turning, facing, and boring operations in both production and job-shop environments. It is primarily rated for cast iron (ISO K, material grades K10, K20, K30) and is also applicable to steel and stainless steel workpieces (ISO P and M material codes). The flat-top chip breaker geometry and 0-degree relief angle make it appropriate for negative-rake toolholders. It is compatible with insert holding methods including clamp, pin, and lever lock systems. Machinists and CNC programmers working on medium to roughing-depth passes will find this insert well matched to those conditions, with a maximum depth of cut of 0.2283 inches.
Designed for use in WNMA-series negative-rake toolholders accepting clamp, pin, or lever lock insert retention. Compatible holding methods and toolholder families should be verified against the ANSI and ISO WNMA060408 insert standard. Verify toolholder pocket geometry before ordering.
Insert installation and indexing should be performed by a qualified machinist or tooling technician with the machine in a locked-out, zero-energy state before any toolholder work is performed. Use the appropriate torque wrench and manufacturer-specified fastener torque for the clamping screw — do not overtighten, as this can fracture the carbide substrate. Inspect the insert pocket for chips or burrs before seating a new insert. Always index or replace inserts before visible chipping reaches the cutting edge land, as catastrophic edge failure can damage the workpiece and toolholder.
