The SECO 03064502 is a solid carbide turning insert designed for precision metal cutting operations on CNC lathes and turning centers. Manufactured to the TNMG432-M5 industry standard geometry, it features a triangular shape with a 60-degree included angle, a neutral hand orientation, and a negative rake angle. The insert carries SECO's Duratomic CVD coating — a multilayer TiCN, Al2O3, and Cr finish — engineered to extend tool life in demanding cutting environments. With 6 available cutting edges and a chamfered-and-honed cutting edge style, this insert delivers consistent performance across interrupted and continuous cuts. It is suited for journeyman machinists and CNC operators working in production turning environments.
This insert is optimized for cast iron as its primary workpiece material (ISO material code K), with secondary suitability for steel and stainless steel (ISO codes P and M). It supports multiple operations including turning, facing, boring, and back turning. The M5 chip breaker geometry is designed to manage chip flow across a range of feeds and depths, making it a practical choice for both roughing and semi-finishing passes in high-volume production settings. The insert conforms to both ANSI and ISO standards and carries the ISO designation TNMG220408-M5.
Designed for use in TNMG-series toolholders that accept a 1/2-inch inscribed circle triangular insert with clamp, pin, or lever-lock retention. Confirmed suitable for cast iron, steel, and stainless steel workpieces per ISO material grades K, P, and M. Material grades K10, K20, and K30 apply.
Installation is performed by qualified CNC machinists or toolroom technicians. Power down and lock out the machine spindle before indexing or replacing inserts. Use the appropriate torque wrench and manufacturer-specified fastener when seating the insert in the toolholder pocket to avoid micro-fractures at the cutting edge. Inspect the pocket seat and clamp components for wear or debris before installing a new insert.
